I am loving the stretch in the evenings. They are almost at their outermost stretch. Which is why it felt strange today to be buying “blackouts” at Guiney’s of Talbot street, to block out this gorgeous and too shortlived evening light! But I have to. The reason? Well, our Irish premiere screening of “Journey to YU (in the footsteps of Rebecca West)” is coming up in Origin Gallery on Fitzwilliam Street on July 4th (thank-you Origin Gallery!), and we are doing a tech spec trial run for it next Tuesday. If you have ever been to Origin Gallery, you will know all about its beautiful, elegant, extra-long Georgian windows. So, seen as the screening is taking place just after 6pm on Saturday July 4th, it is those elegant Georgian windows that we need to block the light coming through, so that we’ll be able to see the photo-documentary! I learned so much today, for example, that “black out’s” are actually white. Also, carrying several metres of them are really quite heavy. So I hope the gaffer tape will do the trick and hold them up for the screening. On the bright (if you’ll excuse the pun), side, I’ll have them for all future screenings of whatever, so who knows, they may actually come in handy. They also have other purposes, which you never know, may also come into play in the future. But for now, I am sorted for the “black outs” for July 4th, and the subsequent PHOTOIRELAND Festival screenings of Journey to YU, July 14 – 17. Also, my super pal Victoria Mary Clarke, whose radio show, “The Art of Living” on Dublin City FM, I was on, last night is very kindly lending us the projector and screen for July 4th. Thank-you Victoria! And all going according to plan, RIAI are lending us the chairs. Thank-you RIAI! There are a few other logistics, usb connections, and ladders to be sorted before the 4th, which Sebastian Stephenson is kindly helping me out with. Where would we be without helping hands? Hopefully in the universal karma I will be able to return all these super favours at some point in the future. In the meantime I am grateful and adding to my list of IOU’s. I also sorted the DVD covers for our kind Kickstarter funders today. So slowly but surely the long to-do list is being ticked, and hopefully we will get there. So here are the dates for your diary: July 4th, 6pm, Origin Gallery, 37 Fitzwilliam Street Upper, Dublin 2, Irish premiere of Journey to YU (in the footsteps of Rebecca West)”, introduced by Colin Graham. July 14th – 17th, PHOTOIRELAND screenings, 1pm, 2.30pm, & 4pm, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the tragic masscare at Srebenica. I would love to hear your thoughts on the documentary if you have a chance to catch it. You are most welcome!
