“Lucia Joyce: Full Capacity” Trieste Bloomsday premiere; Documentary for broadcast on RTE Lyric FM

It has been a busy couple of months, and I’m delighted that my short dance film “Lucia Joyce: Full Capacity” made its world premiere at Bloomsday Trieste on Sunday June 16th in Museo Revoltella at 6pm – an auspicious start indeed, in the city of Lucia’s birth! Also my feature radio documentary on Lucia is ready for broadcast on RTE Lyric FM on Sunday July 21st at 6pm. As you might have guessed, these two projects are companion pieces, each shining light on the other.

And then there’s the feature radio documentary, funded by Broadcasting Authority of Ireland Sound and Vision Scheme – after many recordings and interviews over the last couple of months across Dublin in The James Joyce Centre, The Viking Theatre, Clontarf, Senator David Norris’s splendid residence on North Great George’s street, upstairs in MoLI (Museum of Literature of Ireland) at Newman House, Newstalk Studio, and in RTE Radio Centre where we had an ISDN line to WHYY in Philadelphia to interview Carol Loeb Shloss, author of “Lucia Joyce, to Dance in the Wake” our documentary is ready for broadcast on July 21^st, 2019, at 6pm – in the week of Lucia’s July 26^th birthday 🙂

What to Expect?

Aligning Lucia Joyce’s modern dance career with WB Yeats’ and Ninette de Valois’ Abbey Theatre Ballets, we reclaim the much-misunderstood dancer as an artist in her own right.

And meanwhile, back in Dublin on June 13th, WB Yeats’s birthday, it was an honour to share my documentary on the extraordinary Mrs. WB Yeats, “Georgie’s Vision” (the first ever documentary on this fascinating topic), at the National Library of Ireland.

And not to forget “Lucia Joyce: Perspectives”, the great day I was part of at TCD Long Room Hub back on April 13th, curated by Genevieve Sartor, where I was delighted to give a half hour talk and to contribute to an esteemed panel on the topic of Lucia Joyce the artist, at the height of her powers, and where that might have led.
